The original St. Petersburg records are in German but sometimes the handwriting is very difficult to read. Also, the extractions in many cases were done by people who were not familiar with the German language so there certainly are errors.
It seems reasonable to assume that the original notation was Pyliza = Pilica. However, this was not in the Kalisch region. If you cannot access the original microfilms yourself, send a message to Howard Krushel at krushelh@telus.net . You can write to him in German. He is the SGGEE librarian and can look up the original text to see what the spelling should be. When you write to him, be sure to include all the details from the Odessa data, including the film, item, and page number. This will help him to quickly find the record.
