My name is Harold Gahr. I am the son of Frieda Huebner - Wanke - Gahr.

My mother was married to Andreas Wanke in the Ukraine. Juluis and Bertha Wanke were the mother and father of Andreas Wanke. My mothers parents were August Huebner (Wolhynia 1885) & Emilie Schmidtke Huebner (?1885)Andreas Wanke was killed in Belgium in April 1945. Andreas and Frieda had 5 children, Tamara, Sophie, Andreas, Ernst & Erwin. The first 3 children, Tamara, Sophie & Andreas died as infants.Frieda Wanke emigrated to Canada in 1951 along with her sons Ernst and Erwin Wanke. Frieda Wanke married Oscar Gahr in Canada - 1953. She had 4 more children, which I am the last born in 1958. Ernst and Erwin Wanke grew up and still live in Alberta Canada, near Edmonton. I know from my mother, that Andreas Wanke had a number of brothers and at least 1 sister, and the Wanke family were quite a large family.It seems the Wanke family were split up about 1943 - 1945 and my mother lost contact with them after Andreas was killed. I know there are many Wanke's in USA,and Australia, but I believe Frieda, Ernst & Erwin were one of the only Wanke's to emigrate to Canada. I hope this information helps in your searches. Meine Mutter (Tochter von August HUEBNER & Emilie geb. SCHMIDTKE) hat in der Ukraine Andreas WANKE (Sohn von Julius & Bertha WANKE) geheiratet.

Andreas ist im April 1945 in Belgien gefallen.

Andreas und Frieda hatten 5 Kinder: Tamara, Sophie, Andreas, Ernst und Erwin. Die ersten drei Kinder starben früh, mit den Söhnen Ernst und Erwin wanderte Frieda 1951 nach Kanada aus, wo sie 1953 Oscar GAHR heiratete. Mit ihm hatte sie noch 4 weitere Kinder, ich bin als jüngstes 1958 geboren. Ernst und Erwin WANKE leben noch in Alberta, Kanada, in der Nähe von Edmonton.

Ich weiß von meiner Mutter, daß ihr erster Ehemann Andreas WANKE noch etliche Brüder und eine Schwester hatte. Es scheint, daß die Familie ca. 1943-1945 auseinanderging, meine Mutter verlor nach dem Tod von Andreas den Kontakt zu ihnen.

Ich weiß, daß es in USA und Australien viele WANKEs gibt, aber ich glaube, Frieda, Ernst und Erwin sind einige von den wenigen WANKEs, die nach Kanada gegangen sind.
