Johann Nörenberg in Ludmilpol and Jannowitz-Kislin

Hi forum

This person you have on the wiki is my great grandfather:
http://wiki.wolhynien.net/index.php/N%C3%96RENBERG,_Johann_M.

I wonder what "M." from Johann M. Nörenberg stands for? I didn't know he had a middle name. I found his marriage with Julia Braun long ago (2380028, Roz.) and it says he was from Janow, Pertrikau which I later found is today Dmosin, Poland. There are no known records of his birth in Dmosin.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone have any other suggestionssources on where to find more information about his travels and life in Europe? Verbal history says he was a traveler before migrating to Brazil in 1908.

I am going to research on Kiew Konsulat files to see if he registered.
Verbal story also says he had to be a "Schriftsteller" to the Russian Army. Since he was born in 1860, his conscription age would be in 1878?

He had a son (Paul Nörenberg) born around 1906 which I have missing records, I searched Lück Archives with no much luck. Maybe he was travelling when Paul was born.

Is there any other archive sources I could search for an evidence he was a German National? or other sources of his life?

His name is in Bremen departing on Wurzuburg ship, declared last residence as Olyka, in 1908.

Also an interesting note: Johann had a brother called Gottfried married with Wilhelmine Wiese. He migrated to Brazil to follow Johann, his name also on Bremen passenger list. He departed Bremen 11 Apr 1914 just before WW1 outrbreak but his last place of residence is Suckow, Pommern.

I wonder if this family has its roots in Pommern?

PS: I am a SGGEE member, but I thought it would be good to post it again here, maybe someone else knows something.

Kind Regards

Hi Mauricio,

Janów never changed its name. It still exists, see here

It's correct that Janów is part of the Catholic parish of Dmosin, but as far as I see Johann Nörenberg was Evangelical, not Catholic. So one has to examine the Evangelical church records of Piotrków Trybunalski which unfortunately are available only at the local Evangelical church office in Piotrków (not microfilmed and not online). I was told that the priest doesn't answer genealogical requests.

I guess that the historical registers of Germans from the embassy of Kiev are kept in the "Auswärtiges Amt - Politisches Archiv" in Berlin. Please be aware that only a few Germans in Volhynia were German citizens. The majority of Germans in Volhynia left Prussia or Germany 50-200 years before coming to Volhynia. They had German roots, but they had no German citizenship.

Kind regards,

Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Thank you for the reply.

Yes I had the confirmation in the past from Archiwum Państwowe w Piotrkowie Trybunalskim that this Janow was joined into Dmosin. They couldn't fin any records for Norenberg. I tried hiring a professional researcher for the Piotrkow area but he couldn't find anything from 1860 but I managed to get past through a few generations and know they were in Glogowiec in the early 1800's and late 1700's.

As for Citizenship, I am aware very few were real Germans but many sought the citizenship before migrating to Brazil, one of them was Johann's brother. :-)

So I guess I should try the Politisches Archiv anyway. ;)

Danke

Mauricio
