Thanks Jerry for your help and your answers!!!
A few months ago I asked at SGGEE forum and Howard Krushel send me a scan (The 1:250,000 Army Map Service, Edition 4, Sheet NM35-2, Series N501, Olevsk Map) that shows Olganovka about 10 km north of Olevsk. It seems it was a very small colony and the one you found in your map. I'm sending you the scan now.

Still more information:

I continued to look through my collection and found a topographical Polish map which I recently obtained - Snowidowicze 1:100,000 scale, 1937. It shows Olgino in the exact location as the other map shows Olganowka. There is no doubt in my mind that these are the same place.

Re: I found Olganowka / Olgino (Antwort)

By browsing some of my maps around Olewsk, I found Olganowka and have confirmed that it was also known as Olgino.

First I have a map "Das Deutschtum in Russisch-Wolhynien", Verband der Russlanddeutschen e.V. Berlin, bearbeitet von Andreas Mergenthaler. This map was used by Karl Stumpp and was found among the Captured War Documents on microfilm at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. I do not know the source that Mergenthaler used for this map. It is marked up in several places with handwritten additions and corrections, presumably made by Stumpp or his staff. It has a number of significant errors on it. However, it does show Olgino, roughly 8 km north-northeast of Olewsk. I show it on my map of Volhynia but do not have a topographical map that shows it. This was a remote settlement area with only 3 villages indicated as having German residents.

Second, I have a topographical map, Russland 1:100,000 Truppenausgabe dated 1943 and it is based on a previous Russian map from 1932. It shows Olganowka in precisely the same location as Mergenthaler shows for Olgino.

If you use this modern map M-35-032 you will not find it shown but go to vertical lines 48 and 50 and look down from the top. The first village you see is Andrejewka. Olganowka was about 2 or 3 km SW of there.

I have looked at the document and it very clearly states that the birth and baptism took place at Olganowka, Owrutsch. It also states this was done by the pastor of the Heimtal parish but does not name him. In actual fact, I would suspect this 1913 baptism would have been conducted by the Kantor in the village.

Though I have not found the village on any indices, I will browse some of my unindexed maps tonight to see if I can spot it.

Irene, I have a map where Olgino is shown. Also, an expert from the region told me he found Olganovka near Olevsk in a map (1910) and Olgino in the same ubication in other map (1940). So Olgino maybe was known as Olganowka. I'm looking someone who confirm that and tell me anything more about Olganowka.
Thanks Irene.

Ivan,

The 1906 village list has only one German colony starting with O: Colony Olgino, somewhere north(?) of Owrutsch, 69 Werst from Shitomir (1 Werst = 1,067 km). I do not find it on my maps, though.

I have not been able to find an Olganowka in the Owrutsch region. This area of northeast Volhynia had very few German settlements in it.

Can you send me privately a scan of this document? I would like to see the context in which Owrutsch is used.

Olganowka

Hi, my grandfather was born in Olganowka colonie (Wolhynia) in 1913.
I have a baptism certificate (made in Berlin) that says Olganowka was in Owrutsch government. Doing some internet research I only have found Olganowka in Lutzk (near Roshischtsche). I need any information you have about Olganowka colonie in Owrutsch. Thanks.
