I was looking info about my great grandfather, Friedrich Kaminski, who was born in Staritzkoje. In my family there are rumors about he changed his family name for some reason (maybe because of repressions in USSR). From this forum I learned that deutsch equivalent family name Kaminski will be Steinke. So I start to look at church books for year 1897 (when he was born) and look any Friedrich and Steinke. And I found it! Friedrich Steinke, 28.01.1897, born in Staritzkoje, father - August Steinke, mother - Christine Steinke (Jesske).
Since Staritzkoje is not that big, maybe they were relatives to your family. Will be glad any info!

I thought I should post this is English as well. I am responding to Berthold Steinke. I am the daughter of Wanda Loerchner (nee Steinke). I would very much like to hear from Mr. Steinke, as my brothers and I have very little information about my mother's family history.

Would appreciate any response from anyone that has information for me.

Good afternoon. My name is Alexander, I from Kiev, Ukraine, but my parents born in this villages which is called Staritskoe, Brusilovskogo area of Zhitomir area. Tried to ask old men concerning yours family but without successful, after all from village practically remains nothing, has learnt only that there came a family from Canada like together with the elderly woman, old woman has arrived as it spoke behind a handful of the native earth before died. This while which all information I have. And still wished to ask you, whether remains at you photos of that village in those days, I will be very grateful if you with me have communicated on e-mail. I was not thinking clearly when I mentioned the Canadian phone book in my previous message. Of course we must search for Loerchner, not Steinke.

If you go to http://findaperson.canada411.ca/, you can search for all Loerchner in Canada. As it turns out, there are only 4 of them. All are in Ontario so there is a good chance that they connect to your family.

Unfortunately, the Steinke surname is very common so trying to use a phone book would be impossible.

Hello,
has anybody knowledge about Staritzkoje (German name: Wilhelmswalde); we are looking for a family Steinke.
Names we know are Berthold Steinke and Wanda Steinke (brother and sister), the name of the mother of these both was Juliane Steinke.
Wanda Steinke emigrated to Canada, Waterloo region in the 1950th. Probably she has two sons. After marriage her last name was Loerchner.

Perhaps you know somebody who knows her; perhaps you can give us a hint how to find Wanda Loerchner and her sons in Canada (we are from Germany, Munich; my name is Berthold Steinke, the former Berthold Steinke was my father; Wanda Steinke is a aunt of me, unfortunatly we have lost contact in the 1960th).
